Understory Coffee is a brand dedicated to roasting and blending the most sustainable coffees available on the planet. We source only Smithsonian Bird Friendly®, organic, and fair-trade certified coffees from small farms around the world.
Each farm has its own story, shaped by unique methods of growing coffee beneath the canopy of diverse shade trees. This traditional approach enhances the quality and complexity of the coffee’s flavor while creating habitat for birds, insects, and wildlife.
The result is a thriving ecosystem: rich soil, healthy coffee shrubs, and a vibrant landscape where nature and agriculture work together.
This is the way coffee was first grown—naturally in the forests of Ethiopia, long before modern farming methods changed the landscape.
