The Huehuetenango region has become one of the most prized coffee growing regions in Guatemala. Guatemalan coffee from this area benefits from high altitude and many cultivated varieties. The CODECH community is a collection of organizations devoted to supporting the local coffee farmers, whose small farms average only 1.2 acres in size.
The commitment to the local farmers is quite impressive, with CODECH overseeing programs such as organic farming workshops, leadership workshops, household development, and women’s rights and gender equality workshops. With such a strong support system, local farmers have the tools to produce premium specialty coffees that continue to score well year after year.
