What is Specialty Coffee?
Specialty Coffee refers to any coffee that grades 80 points or above on a 100 point scale by a certified coffee taster or by a licensed Q grader. This includes both single origin coffees and blends.
A Q grader is a Coffee Quality Institute (CQI) licensed coffee taster.
Why Should You Consider Special Coffee?
The simple answer is so you can experience a better tasting cup of coffee. Some aspects of coffee can be subjective. If you have found a coffee that you like that does not grade 80 or higher, by all means, keep enjoying it! Finding a great coffee that you love is what your coffee experience should be about.

Different Coffee Beans: Arabica or Robusta?
There are two primary types of coffee beans consumed on planet earth, Arabica and Robusta. In most cases, choosing specialty coffee means choosing Arabica coffee beans. Arabica beans traditionally have superior taste and this is why we use Arabica beans as the source of our single origin specialty coffee.

Single Origin vs Blends
Single Origin Coffee is grown within a specific geographic region. This region can represent a single farm, a co-op of farms, or an area within a country.
Blended Coffee is a mixture of coffee crops that can come from a specific region or from all over the world.
You can find great Single Origin Coffees and you can find great Blended Coffees. There are advantages to both. Let's take a look!
Coffee Processing on the Farm
Processing methods applied on the farm will have tremendous influence on the coffee you end up consuming. Growing, processing, and roasting coffee are all about chemical changes that influence flavor. The choice of processing method influences how much each chemical component of a coffee bean is present when that bean makes it to the roaster.
